Past Screenings

Beyond Interpretation began its life as a program of independent American films at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London. I wanted to create a space in which films from the margins of the American film industry could find new audiences that the circumstances of their size, budget, and institutional support wouldn’t allow.

I curated a selection of films that used themes of paranoia and conspiracy to illustrate the precarious nature of creativity at the margins. In their own individual ways, each film in the program spoke to an overarching idea about the tricky, sometimes inhospitable conditions under which independent artists often have to create. And at the same time, I hoped to open opportunities to celebrate the very fact of their existence.

Information about the five films I programmed at the ICA can be found here.
